“From the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” Mark 10:6-9
Marriage is a sacrament alive with grace and blessings. “For those entering the covenant of marriage, the words of consent join the couple into a community of persons united by love through their will. The minister of this sacrament is the couple. The focus is not on what the minister does but on who the minister is. Everything about the married persons changes and becomes sacramental in nature. The simple actions they perform in their lives become a profound means for sacramental grace to enter into the world. As with all sacraments, Marriage is a living sign of Christ’s presence, not just a symbol of it. It is an ongoing, day by day, way of living.” (Christian Married Life)
Marriage Preparation Program at Holy Face
Marriage Preparation is separate from the preparation for the liturgical celebration for the wedding.
The Marriage Preparation program at Holy Face has four major components:
- Sessions with pastor: To start the Marriage preparation process, contact the pastor at 301-994-0525. Upon meeting with the pastor, other requirements will be determined.
- Complete FOCCUS Questionnaire: Couples are asked to take the FOCCUS questionnaire and have at least one feedback session. Appointments are made on individual basis by calling the pastor.
- Marriage Preparation Class: Engaged couples must attend an Engaged Encounter weekend or attend Pre-Cana sponsored by Couple to Couple. Dates for upcoming classes will be given upon meeting with the pastor.
- Attend one of the Natural Family Planning (NFP) courses.
An individual requesting to be married at Holy Face must be an active member in good standing for a minimum of six months before the formal six months of instruction can begin.
Practicing adults from outside of the parish whose parents are active parishioners in good standing at Holy Face may request to be married at Holy Face. A letter must be presented to the pastor of Holy Face from the parish of the individual. It should state that the individual is registered and regularly practices the Faith.
No date of marriage can be placed on the church calendar until the couple have formally met with the priest and have taken the pre-nuptial investigation to determine that they have no impediments of marriage.
